iOS Managed App Configuration Using the Cyber Device Manager

Rajesh Daadi Updated by Rajesh Daadi

iOS Managed App Configuration refers to a set of configuration options that administrators can apply to apps on iOS devices that are managed through a Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution. These configurations allow IT administrators to customize and control app behavior, and settings within an enterprise environment.

Benefits of using the iOS Managed App Configuration

These configurations can be used in both BYOD and fully managed devices. iOS Managed App Configurations allow administrators to predefine app settings that can be securely deployed to managed devices, ensuring consistency, security, and efficiency across an organization's devices.

For example, IT administrators can remotely configure end-user email IDs, email server addresses, etc., in apps like Outlook and IceWarp OfficeEmail. Settings can include configuration variables such as %useremail% and %username%, which the MDM automatically populates with actual values and pushes to the device.

Steps to pre-configure the iOS application

  1. Login to Codeproof console here.
  2. Go to 'Apps' from top navigation menu then on the left-hand menu, select "Apple Apps Store (iTunes)".
  3. Search for the Desired App Under the "Add App from App Store" section:
  4. Enter the app name in the search box (e.g., OfficeMail Enterprise) Click on "Search App Store".
  5. Add the App and Configure the iOS App.
  6. In the "Add iOS App" window: Verify the app name, app publisher.
  7. Deploy Now: Check this box if you want to deploy the app immediately.
  8. From the dropdown menu, select the desired profile (e.g., IOS devices).
  9. App Config: Add the required app configuration plist in the provided box.
  10. Save the Configuration.

Icewarp OfficeEmail App plist example:

 <dict>
<key>UserName</key>
<string>%username%</string>
<key>UserEmail</key>
<string>%useremail%</string>
</dict>

Verification

  1. Once saved, the app will appear under the Apple Apps Store (iTunes) list. Use the "Manage" option to review settings.
  2. You can pre-configure the app’s managed configurations at the group level, eliminating the need for device enrollment during the initial setup. Once a device is enrolled, the app is automatically deployed, and the configuration is seamlessly pushed without requiring any manual action from the Policy Manager.
  3. The below screenshot displays the end user's email ID automatically populating in the email client app
