Android Managed App Configuration Using the Cyber Device Manager

Yashwanth Updated by Yashwanth

Android Managed Configuration refers to a set of configuration options that administrators can apply to apps on Android devices that are managed through a Mobile Device Management (MDM) or Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solution. These configurations allow IT administrators to customize and control app behavior, settings, and access on devices within an enterprise environment.

Benefits of using the Android Managed Configurations

Managed configurations are a key feature in Android Enterprise, which is a suite of tools and services designed to help organizations manage Android devices. For example, these configurations are used in BYOD and fully managed devices for seamless enterprise device management.

For example, IT administrators can remotely configure end-user email IDs, email server addresses, etc., in apps like Outlook and IceWarp OfficeEmail. Settings can include configuration variables such as %useremail% and %username%, which the MDM automatically populates with actual values and pushes to the device.

How It Works: The configuration is delivered to the app after it is installed on the device. The app must support managed app configuration (via a framework like AppConfig), and the settings are pushed to the app without requiring any user intervention.

Steps to configure the application:

  1. Log in to your Codeproof Admin console. Click on the “App Deployment” section from the main menu.
  2. Select the Google Play Store, then search and approve the app. For more details on app installation, please refer to this article here.
  3. Then go to the policy manager from the top menu and select a device or group. Next, go to Play Store Manager.
  4. Select the application and click on the Configure Application. Make sure the app is installed on the device before configuration. Please refer to the below image.
  5. Fill in the required fields and save the configuration. Open the application on the device to see the end-user's email ID populated automatically.

Note: Few apps will not be supporting the managed configuration.
