How to enable native app Whitelisting in Android?

Sanketh Rai Updated by Sanketh Rai

Native App Whitelisting is a powerful feature in Codeproof Cyber Device Manager® for Android devices, allowing MDM administrators to restrict device access to specified applications. This feature is particularly useful for ensuring that devices are used solely for business purposes by removing unnecessary apps from the device screen. Only the apps added to the whitelist, along with the Codeproof MDM app, will be visible to the user. No other applications will appear. In this case, no kiosk setup is necessary.

Benefits of Native App Whitelisting

  • Enhanced Security: Prevents unauthorized access to non-whitelisted apps.
  • Improved Productivity: Ensures users focus on business-critical applications.
  • Customizable Interface: Displays only essential apps on the device screen.

Step-by-Step Guide to Enable Native App Whitelisting

  1. Log in to your Codeproof Admin Console, navigate to the "Policy Manager", and select the device or group you want to manage.
  2. Navigate to the "Android Security" section and click on "App Restrictions."
  3. Under "Allow only these apps and remove the rest - Native Whitelist," add the apps you want to whitelist.
  4. Save the changes, and the policy will be applied automatically to the selected devices or groups.

Example: Whitelisting “Settings” and “Chrome” Apps

To whitelist only the "Settings" app and the "Chrome" app, follow the steps above and add the following app package names in the whitelist field as shown in the below screenshot.

Once the policy is applied, only these two apps will be visible on the device, along with the Codeproof MDM app. All other apps will be hidden from the user.
